A native of Atlanta, Gerald Silverboard graduated with Honors from Grady High School and attended Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana where he received his Bachelor of Art degree as a pre-med student. Dr. Silverboard then attended the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, Georgia, where he was earned his awarded his medical degree (MD). Dr. Silverboard subsequentially completed a mixed Medicine-Pediatric internship at Emory University affiliated hospitals and trained for three years specializing in Pediatrics. He was Chief Resident at Egleston Children’s Hospital under the direction of Joseph Patterson, MD.

Dr. Silverboard then served as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps where he was Chief of Pediatrics at Martin Army Hospital in Ft. Benning, GA. Having completed his military service, Dr. Silverboard returned to Emory University to complete his medical education. This included an additional Residency in Neurology and later Fellowship in Neurology and Child Neurology under the esteemed tutelage of Herb Karp, MD and James Schwartz, MD.

Dr. Silverboard is double boarded both by the American Academy of Pediatrics and by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with special competence in Child Neurology. Dr. Silverboard practiced Adult Neurology and Child Neurology in Mobile, Alabama from 1979 until 2003 including a teaching appointment as Associate Clinical Professor of Child Neurology at the University of South Alabama School of Medicine.

In 2003, Dr. Silverboard returned to Atlanta and is practicing Neurology, both adult and child specialties, with a unique approach at Atlanta Family Neurology. Dr. Silverboard enjoys the intellectual and scientific challenge of caring for neurological disorders across the spectrum of life. He has published original articles related to neurological complications of high-risk preterm and term infants as well as a textbook chapter related to stroke in the authoritative text, Stroke, authored by Jay Mohr, M.D. a noted adult stroke neurologist.
